antique Cree pipe or tobacco bag
This extraordinary Cree pipe or tobacco bag was made in the 1860s or 1870s. The principal motif depicted on both sides of the bag but with different colored beads on each side is Water Monster Eyes. It is beaded on both sides. Hand-made tin cones are attached for holding yarn tassels. The old hand-tanned hide is covered in typical red trade cloth of the period. Rare use of brown and cranberry beads.
